It's too hot to think...
So keep it simple. One perfect skirt for transitional dressing. The shoe that changes an entire look. And Tory's favorite swimsuit.
What’s on our minds as we round the bend on summer is three-fold: (i) Finding something easy and cool to wear. (ii) Adding a dash of newness to our wardrobes. (iii) Transitioning into fall. We found all of the above in a single piece.
WE BRING YOU…THE SKIRT
The layered skirt is a somewhat unexpected main character. It falls outside the usual categorization of A-lines, maxis, pencils and pleats. Its nonchalant asymmetrical layers and swishing movement owe much to ballet. There’s also a whisper of the glam ’80s pouf, though the humble cotton keeps it on the right side of garish. That tension is key to the skirt’s success.
Wear it now. Later. And even later. The skirt’s precise cocktail of formality, ease and novelty lend it to being worn endless ways for a wide range of climates.
Side note: it’s funny — sometimes the most versatile things aren’t the most basic.

THE WISH LIST WITH…THE FOUNDERS OF THE BOUWERIE
A shared love of craftsmanship inspired friends Fernanda Niven and Alexia Leuschen to create The Bouwerie, a luxury home decor site featuring collaborations with highly skilled artisans; think Murano glassblowers and linen makers who learned their trade in Italian convents. Through fall, the Bouwerie has a pop-up at gourmet food shop L’Épicuriste in Bridgehampton. “People really like hearing where a piece comes from,” said Fernanda. “It builds a connection when you know the story behind a fireplace screen or a glass.” Below, the discerning pair shared what’s on their wish list.
1. One-piece Swimsuit: “The kind of suit we love because it doubles as a great top with a pareo or long skirt.” 2. Gin Lane Stemmed Glasses: “These are extra appetizing thanks to the crisp white rim. We love to mix the blue and white!” 3. Embellished Patchwork Dress: “Perfect for hot summer days. We love the vintage style print and combo of citrine and Kelly green.” 4. Plant Pot Ring: “Cora Sheibani’s rings are for all the times you can’t be in your garden and wish you were.” 5. Seagrass Shade Lamp: “Our rechargeable lamp is perfect for the bar, powder room or dining table.” 6. Porcelain Citron on a Plate: “The trompe l’oeil plate brings happiness to any room.”
WHAT TORY WORE: THE CLIP TANK SUIT
Swim is our best-kept secret. And highest praise often goes to the Clip Tank suit, also one of Tory’s personal favorites. The one-piece is an extremely well made classic — not cut too high on the leg, not too scooped in the back and made in a flattering and long-lasting Italian jersey with four-way stretch (“It just holds you in!” said one fan). Available in black with silver hardware or black hardware, and two prints: a vintage-inspired carousel motif and classic leopard.
ONE NEW IDEA: THE PIERCED MULE
Claire McCardell once said, “The excitement of one new idea often brings your whole wardrobe into line.” As fashion folk who prefer to slowly build a wardrobe over years, we love the concept of a single new item that updates what’s already in your closet. Colorful, sharply geometric and defined by a subtly subversive trompe l’oeil ring that appears to pierce the leather, the Pierced Mule is that piece. What’s more: the shoe is designed for actual comfort with a padded sole, inverted ‘gravity’ heel and a hidden elasticated thong that keeps your toes in place.
RENAISSANCE WOMEN
The cultural juggernaut known as Beyonce’s Renaissance tour came to town. The perfect venue for sequins, lace and mini bags, worn by some of our favorite influencers.
The most flattering skirt!
